Dick Cabela and his wife, Mary, started filling fishing fly mail orders from their home in Chappell, Nebraska, on a kitchen table in 1961. A profitable direct-mail catalog business resulted from classified ads in newspapers and national outdoor publications, and Dick persuaded his younger brother Jim to join the new company in 1963.
Cabela's has achieved the title of the World's Foremost Outfitter without ever abandoning its humble, small-town roots since its founding in 1961. Much of their success can be attributed to the skilled outdoorsmen and women they employ. From their corporate headquarters in Sidney, Nebraska, to their growing number of retail locations throughout the United States and Canada.
