The other active deal is an End of Summer Sale with selected items reduced by up to 50%, which is best if every item in your cart is one of the marked down products.
Very small orders or a single full price item: if your cart is all full price items and totals $120, the 20% off promo code is the clear choice. The code takes 20% off the $120 original price, leaving you with $96, a saving of $24. Use the promo code at checkout to apply that saving.
Buying a single selected sale item: when the item you want is in the End of Summer Sale at 50% off, the sale beats the code for that item. On a product that is originally $120 and reduced 50%, the sale price is $60, so you pay $60 and save $60. The sale applies only to selected products marked down by the retailer.
Mixed carts that include sale items and full price items: the 20% code cannot be combined with other offers, so you have to choose between taking the sale prices or using the code on the full price subtotal only if the retailer permits excluding sale items. For an example where one product is originally $100 and is marked down 50% to $50, and the other is full price at $100, take the sale alone and pay $150 in total. If you declined the sale reductions and used the 20% code on both items at their original total of $200, you would pay $160, a worse outcome than the sale. So choose the sale in this mix.
Buying multiple full price items not marked down: if none of your items are in the sale, the 20% code applies to the whole order and will save more. For instance, three full price items totaling $300 become $240 after the 20% code, a saving of $60.
When to use each offer: if every item in your cart is a selected sale product with big reductions, the sale will usually leave you with the lower total.
