The chances of winning a Green Card vary from year to year due to the number of participants and the legal requirements. Each world region receives a certain number of Green Cards. The average chance of winning a Green Card with The American Dream is about 1:25 to 1:75, depending on the region and year (for Europeans recently around 1:45). Due to the new passport regulations, there will be significantly fewer participants as of 2019, so the chances will probably rise again to 1:25. Of course, you will need to provide proof of your divorce at a later date. Even if you are still married when you win a Green Card, it is not required that your spouse accepts the Green Card. You must inform the US authorities that you intend to travel to the USA alone.
Same-sex partnerships (civil unions) are not valid as a legal marriage when applying. Same-sex marriages legally recognized in countries like Denmark or the United States must be included on the application. All unmarried children under the age of 21 must also be included.
More than you would think. In previous lotteries, the percentage of applications disqualified due to formal errors varied between 30% and 41%. These applications were disqualified because they either did not meet the strict requirements of the US authorities or they were not submitted within the open application period. The hard part: The US authorities do not inform applicants if their application is disqualified.
